John Kriewall and Elizabeth Haehl

"As parents, we know how important it is to have a world-class hospital in our community. We want to enable Packard to continue to provide outstanding care and to grow to meet community needs."
- Betsy Haehl

"We also recognize the value of unrestricted support, and are proud to support the Lucile Packard Children's Fund through annual gifts."
- John Kriewall

John Kriewall and Elizabeth “Betsy” Haehl are longtime donors and friends of Packard Children’s. In 2000, they made a founding gift to Packard’s Pediatric Palliative Care Program, which provides support and guidance for children and families facing incurable illness.

The couple’s generous gift included the John A. Kriewall and Elizabeth A. Haehl Directorship for Palliative Care, which is held by Barbara Sourkes, PhD, and the John A. Kriewall and Elizabeth A. Haehl Endowed Fund for Pediatric Palliative Care. Today, the program is a model for other children’s hospitals nationwide.

More recently, John and Betsy made another gift to help establish the Deborah E. Addicott—John A. Kriewall and Elizabeth A. Haehl Family Professorship in Pediatrics. Its first holder is Harvey Cohen, MD, PhD.

John retired in 2000 from a career at RCM Capital Management in San Francisco, and currently serves on the board of the Lucile Packard Foundation for Children's Health.  He and Betsy are both actively involved in a number of non-profit health, education, and environmental organizations.
